This week there has been a lot of great discussion out there on inquiry-based learning and flipped classrooms. While these techniques differ from the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), they both identify the need to give students more ownership of their learning, especially through more collaborative means. Links are below.
- Teaching Channel provides us all with several fantastic videos on inquiry-based learning, which include footage of real students and teachers in real classrooms using this technique.
- A recent blog post on Inquire Within talks about implementing inquiry-based learning during summer school classes. The author and teacher of this class, BillieN, writes that she is excited for “a question-riddled journey this summer,” and we couldn’t agree more!
- Flipping with Kirch is a great blog written by Crystal Kirch, in which she documents her experience with the flipped classroom technique. In this post, Crystal writes a reflection on the year as a whole and she provides a fascinating perspective on this type of learning. It is definitely worth checking out older posts too!
Also, Lynne M. Oakvik sends us a video this week meant to help teachers understand the connection between inquiry, the research process (the video features the F.I.N.D.S. model) and Common Core. It is a very compelling video and definitely worth watching.

The Technology in Education (TIE) Conference continues in Copper Mountain, Colorado and you can find session and conference updates here on Twitter. Bernajean Porter gave the keynote address, entitled, “I-Imagine™: Waking up a Generation to Their Own Greatness,” and mentioned Make Just One Change.
